30th Cordner NE Press Awards – the Shortlists
Winners will be announced on 4 February, but the 90 listed names are a commendation in themselves, a salute by the judges to the pack of front-runners among 200 entrants for the 30th Tom Cordner North East Press Awards.
The celebration night will also include awards for North East Journalist of the Year and North East Weekly Journalist of the Year, plus the Graeme Stanton Award, presented by the Society of Editors (North) and ncjMedia for a special contribution to journalism in the North East.
The awards were started by colleagues of Tom Cordner who died in 1976, aged only 38. At first open only to staff of the Hartlepool Mail, Sunderland Echo and Durham Advertiser, the papers Tom worked for, the awards quickly embraced the whole region’s print media and now include blogs and video news on the papers’ associated websites.
